Persian Turkmen rug 72x142cm
SKU: 036674This rug is made by Turkmen tribes living in northeast Iran. Turkmen rugs often are a bit smaller than other styles because of the nomadic lifestyle of ancient Turkmen tribes. The constant moving around made it difficult for weavers to work on larger rugs. The Turkmen weavers moved around with their lifestock and used its wool for their rugs. Nowadays the tribes have settled down and larger rugs are becoming more common. Iran's Turkmen population consists of many different subgroups each making their own kind of carpets. The different styles usually share the use of red and brown shades as dominant colors in their patterns. Other colours like purple, yellow and green are sometimes used in the details of the carpet. Turkmen artist are known for their extensive technical abilities enabling them to make dense carpets with high numbers of knots per square meter. This denseness makes the patterns and the colors used more intense.
