Persian Baluchi rug 110x174cm
SKU: 029410This rug is a Baluchi rug. These rugs are traditionally handmade by Baluchi nomads in South-East Iran. Nowadays these nomads live in Southern-Afghanistan en West-Pakistan as well. The rugs in our shop are made in the Iranian city of Mashad, which is a place with an extended cultural heritage. Baluchi rugs are usually characterised by red, brown and darker shades of blue in their patterns. The rugs are usually made from wool but in some cases cotton, camel hairs, goat hair and/or silk are used as well. Baluchi rugs are smaller than typical Persian rugs because of the traditional nomadic lifestyle of their creators. Baluchi weavers often use geometric figures such as squares, hexagons and triangles in their patterns. Making a Baluchi rug four or five weavers can take up to ten months for the bigger carpets.
